I think this will be the last of the "Patterns" poem atcs... at least for now. There probably will be more in the Pocket Book of Verse Series, however. I find working with the words even more fun that magazine clippings, though those have their own sensibility.

This is a photo collage of the cover of a book I've had since I was a little girl. I wrote my favorite names all over the outside of the book. It's falling apart and the pages are disintegrating so this is my way of commemorating and "keeping it."

Another flurry of cardmaking two days ago resulted in these. I can't seem to get a theme or series going but right now, I'm just going with whatever seems the next right thing.

There are five new ones.

This one is a stack of different papers, each one getting smaller. There's card stock, origami paper, rice paper then card stock... all drawn with gelpens, markers and pencils.

Oh! More jeans! I took a photograph of scissors, thread, jeans, measuring tape. That's the base of the card. Then it's collaged or sewn with real jean and other fabric, an old thread label and two kinds of thread.

This one's fun! It's Japanese origami paper folded over a little twig. The twig was too long for the paper so the rest of it got wrapped in gold wedding dress fabric with both bound up and sewed on with gold thread. The formalized feel to this is also a departure for me.

Okay... these were fun. The next three were made mainly from a piece of text that I cut out of a magazine years ago. It's about a love song needing to be more than a little 2 1/2 minute "ditty" but I think it struck my eye more for the lovely font and the words that were used. Plus, I liked the sort of slashy border. I used it to make three art cards.

With the text, I collaged old, old, OLD rice paper that was my dads. He died over 25 years ago and no telling how long he'd held onto it. It's yellowed and not much use for anything and therefore, perfect for small collages. Still beautiful! The tiny swatch of fabric is from my wedding dress (4 years ago).

I'm attached to this one so it's - not available.

This begins my second set of ATC's. I finally got the webzine published and I rewarded myself yesterday with most-of-a-day of playing with my camera, scanner, scissors, glue, paint, pencils, magazines, thread, ink, gelpens, old rice paper, origami paper and, in one case, twigs. What fun!

This first one is a photograph of a small, old, glass-fronted display case that sits by a window in my bedroom. I keep little books, knick-knacks, found items and photos in it. I printed the photo on card stock and then collaged it with magazine words, other photos and painted it. My sister has dibs on it and I don't think she even realizes that her daughter's photo is in it. Can you see it? It's at the lower left side (on the lower shelf of the display case.)

Photo collage from photos I took of things on my desk and work table and then painted. The War is Not Healthy for Children and Other Living Things is a charm from the 60's. I think they were made by a group called Mother's for Peace... or maybe it was Another Mother for Peace. But I may be wrong about that. Anyone remember these?

.... several days later and still finishing up the zine, I made some more. With this first set, I took photos around my studio/office... things were a bit piled up so the photos looked like collages but weren't. This one has a little bit of collage on the bottom and sides but mostly, it's just a painted photo.

I *discovered* Artist Trading Cards on Flickr.com. This was during the last week before the second issue of The Practically Creative Quarterly - my webzine was to be published. I couldn't afford to take time off to do art - even TINY art! - but I also couldn't ignore the urge. I tore up a couple of 'failed' photos glued them together, added some gelpen doodles and posted it on flickr.com to the Artists Trading Cards pool. It took the edge off my Need To Do This, but it was there all the while I was finishing the zine....

So then I.....
